Faculty of Science awarded 8 DECRAs

The Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) scheme provides focused research support for early career researchers in both teaching and research, and research-only positions. It supports research in areas of critical national importance by enabling outstanding Australian and international early career researchers to conduct their research in Australia.

This year the Faculty of Science has been award 8 DECRAs and will receive a total of $3 316 588 in funding. In total the University of Melbourne received 22 awards.

The awardees are:

Marc Somssich (BioSciences) – Towards understanding the molecular details of canola infections by Fusarium

Liam Hall (Chemistry) – Viewing chemistry through diamond: Quantum sensors for Realtime in situ NMR

Daniel Priebbenow (Chemistry) – Metal-free strategies for sustainable light-driven synthesis

Amy Prendergast (Geography) – Rapid climate change, early modern human dispersal, and Neanderthal demise

Stuart Johnson (Maths & Stats) – From cells to whales: A mathematical framework to understand navigation

Stephen Muirhead (Maths & Stats) – The geometric structure of spatial noise

Susan Wei (Maths & Stats) – Making machine learning fair(er)

Andrew Morgan (Physics) – Single particle imaging: X-ray imaging of individual dynamic biomolecules
