Jessica Kelly
Area of study / field of expertise
Soil science, ecotoxicology
Previous education
Bachelor of Agriculture, The University of Melbourne.
Jessica is a Master of Science (Bioscience) student focused on exploring the complexities of microplastic toxicity in soil ecosystems. Her research aims to develop a reliable methodology for assessing microplastic impacts in soil, a critical step in understanding how these pollutants affect environmental health. Given the growing recognition of microplastics as a threat to both natural and agricultural systems, Jessica’s work addresses key knowledge gaps in ecotoxicology.
In addition to her primary focus, Jessica is also investigating the ecotoxicology of PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) microplastics on springtails, which are essential soil organisms. With a background in soil and agricultural sciences and experience as a laboratory technician, her research provides critical insights that support sustainable land management and pollution mitigation in today’s challenging environmental landscape.
