Zhongtao has completed his his Masters research project investigating tire wear microplastic pollution - the relationship between tire wear particles in stormwater and soil, and the mechanisms of tire wear particle transport in the soil environment.
The project involved quantifying the tire wear particle concentration in stormwater and soil across urban areas of Melbourne, Australia. The research analysed different traffic volumes and investigated changes in the concentrations and size of tire wear particles in soil at different distances.
